Inspired by Hiroshi Teshigahara, my drawing series, Ikebana Décalcomanie, an ongoing exploration of the tension between intention and spontaneity. In Ikebana, each stem follows its own organic path, resisting manipulation yet shaping the composition in ways beyond control. Décalcomanie mirrors this dynamic, as pigment flows, merges, and settles independently of my directive. Both processes begin with preparation, precision, and vision, yet embrace accident as an integral force, transforming unpredictability into an essential part of creation.
Since 2019, I have studied the colour harmonies of birds, deconstructing their organic palettes through drawing. This research informs my approach, shaping my exploration of pigment, form, and spatial balance. In this series, paper becomes a vessel, watercolor mimics water, and paint becomes material, echoing the relationship between flowers, vessels, and the fluid nature of Ikebana. By translating Ikebana into two-dimensional space, I distill its ephemeral essence into a shifting, dynamic form.
This series is a meditation on impermanence, resistance, and surrender, offering an invitation to embrace chance, allowing both nature and medium to shape the outcome. It exists in the space between structure and fluidity, where meaning emerges organically, shaped by evolving dialogue between manipulation and unpredictability.
